I've tried several times to download Themes for Thunderbird. It gets over half through and then I get an error message that the Theme is not compatible with Firefox.

If they are two separate programs and I've started the download from Thunderbird why and who cares if it's compatible with Firefox?

I was in the section for Thunderbird when I chose the Theme.

    Thanks.

There is no way that your download could have started from from TB, although you can select a link in TB to get new addons/themes. You must have some window open in a browser to do a download.
Could you give a link? If I select get themes in TB, a new tab opens in Firefox . One example is the Vista theme . The "How to install" (green background) tells you how to do it.
I downloaded the file to my desktop, and dragged and dropped it into the Theme part of the Addons.
Man, that theme looks freaky, but it is compatible with TB. Of course, you don't want it in Firefox.

Of course you are right about the browser bit.

But I should have been a little more precise. I was in TB and when I wanted a different look I checked the Themes on the Add-On tab.

When the browser opened I chose several TB themes. They started to download and stopped because the ones I had chosen were not compatible with Firefox. That threw me for a loop. It didn't even give me a chance to try and in stall it.

I will try again and if I can at least get it to my desktop I will do what you said. If not I suppose it's no great loss.

    Thanks.

What did you do to install the Themes? I don't know if all Themes installs are set up the same way, but the one I downloaded, and installed gave clear directions, i.e.: right click on the Install button, and save the .xpi file. I saved it to the desktop. Then, I opened the Options|Addons|Themes of TB2.0, and dragged and dropped the .xpi file in the Themes area. It did its thing, selected it, and restarted TB.
May be the Themes you selected did not give you the option you described, but it is the only option which will work. If you left clicked, it is possible that Firefox may have thought that you wanted to install the Theme in Firefox.
By using the above described method, I used Firefox to download the file, and that's it.

    Westside,

Well, I had some success. I guess I wasn't paying enough attention to the installation instructions.

After reading your message I was able to install two of them. The third one simply will not install even with your instructions.

It is the "bible Thunderbird 3.0. I tried several time with no success. I am thinking it is just not compatible with maybe Vista?

Anyway I won't pursue it. Just glad I have what I have. I don't like dull!

    Thanks.

I don't have Vista, so I would not know about the Bible TB3.0 Theme, other that it works with WinXP. What they are showing is v.3.0.4. However, they are talking about v.3.0.5 in the blog. I installed it.
May be you will find something about it in the blog. Again, you must right click, and select to save as. In the blog, you will have the option to install or open, which is wrong, or download (I do it to desktop), and drag and drop, like the other .xpi or .jar files into the Addons|Themes box. I don't like this particular Theme.
I think that it is pretty drab.
