Logitech keyboards have that function. Can be disabled. I guess that other brands have the same.

Hi, ginman. Welcome to Windows BBS! :)

In this discussion about a similar caps lock notification/display issue, the culprit turned out to be a process called BTTray.exe according to post #17 in that linked discussion thread.

Please keep us informed about what you discover with your issue.

    EDIT:
If you're using a Microsoft keyboard with Microsoft "Intellitype Pro" software (delivered on CD with the keyboard – and can be downloaded from MS to update), then post #29 by PeteC in that linked discussion thread might be your answer.

If you're using a Logitech keyboard:
I have "iTouch" software installed for my Logitech keyboard (from a CD that came with the keyboard) that displays "Caps Lock On" or "Caps Lock Off" in bright green letters on my monitor whenever I hit the Caps Lock key.
    • Click Start > All Programs > Logitech > iTouch > iTouch Configuration > Options tab.
    • Disable (uncheck) "Show on-screen key effects ".

Otherwise, there are other suggestions in that thread that may help.
