I ordered my most recent laptop with Vista Home Premium on it. I admit I did have some frustrations with making it the way I wanted it, as I have with every new OS I have ever used. But I have always made my own mind up rather than taking another's word for fact.

I have been running Vista exclusively since June of 2007.

FWIW, the PC operating systems I have used includes: DOS (3(.x), 5(.x), 6(.x)); OS/2 (V1 through V3); Windows (2(.x), 3(.x), 95, 98(and 98SE)), NT (3(.x), 4(.x)), 2000, XP, and Vista. I even had ME, just never got around to installing it.

You are a minority. Most people I talk to about Vista said "they have heard ".... they never actually tried it, but because someone told them, they have outspoken opinions on it. Something is wrong there...

I think people that are experienced with XP try to treat Vista the same way and get frustrated when it doesn't, anyone that asks them what they think about Vista get a negative report.

People that have not used a computer before may well experience zero problems. "Fast learners ", like teenagers, that do not treat Vista like XP, may gain most from Vista.

I tried treating Vista like XP, but found I was doing something wrong. I tried disabling UAC and when I found problems, went back to working with the system and have had no problems.

I have thrown out my ways of treating Vista like XP. If I am not certain about something, I use Help and Support or other learning methods, to find out how Vista works (or how to work with Vista).

Everybody knew Windows 95 was going to be a big change from Windows 3.1. Everybody knew Windows XP was going to be a big change from Windows 98.

People shown a different Operating System, like the Mojave Experiment, and treat it like a new Operating System, will get the benefits (IMO).

I agree that Vista gets more complaints from hearsay than from fact.

I use Ultimate on one of my 4 work stations that I use daily. And probably 60-80 on my clients networks all of these are Ultimate.

It does well but put it in Corporate America in a mixed environment and it will cause issues.

Most of the Vista issues are related to first Networking in general, then slow Networking performance and come from Corporate America.

Corporate America also causes some of these problems that are not Vista's fault by being stupid and cheap enough to try to use the lower levels of of Vista likely to save money. Or buying off the shelf Computers with Home which is the rule rather that the exception.

I would like to see a survey of how many Vista Home's are installed on these large networks. Vista Home was not intended to be used in these environments. And even a couple steps up is not acceptable. IMHO Vista Ultimate is THE only one that should be used in these larger mixed environments. Vista should not be faulted in these cases.

These things don't effect a home user with a stand alone computer or small 2-3 node "peer to peer workgroup based network" as much. These are the people most happy with Vista.

As for the Mojave experiment install a couple of flashy Vista type screen enhancements in XP and I bet the results would have been the same!

Whereas XP would place user files here and there, often even right with the installed executables under \Program Files\, Vista tries to enforce some rules for placement. In some cases, yes, this will mean an upgrade of your application to go along with this. But it also means that 99.9% of your user data is under the \USERS\ directory/folder. This makes backup much simplier. And, if you are inclined towards physically isolating your data onto separate drives, this can be accomplished under Vista much easier than under XP.

So, yes, things are different. Times change. Try buying leaded gas today. When was the last time you bought a cassette? How about a VHS movie? Still driving that Studebaker? ;) See this thread for an earlier rant.

    ;), again.
