I tried to load an updated program " Cannon Easy Photo Print " and got the following message "The login account does not have the required privileges to remove the selected application. Please use an administrator account" I'm not sure what to do about this. I didn't know there was an administrator account for 98SE. Anyone know what to do about this?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Perhaps some sort of "security program" or "poledit" used that has set a policy that has disabled some element needed to install/uninstall software.

    To start with....
I'd search the reg looking at what policy enables and disables may have been set. Do a reg search for Policies and see what policies may have been put into place. I don't know, off the top of my head, what the exact hkey string and values would be but since, at this point, this is being done strickly as an exploration, perhaps we will luck out and the name and value will make sense or can be further explored, using a search engine such as google, to see what the policy value would control.

Just remember not to make any changes unless you know exactly what your doing or have taken the precaution of backing up either the registry or exporting the hkey before any changes are made.

Of course this could be due to something related either to the Cannon device this software came bundled with or the software its self. Particularly if your computer is Networked and the original device this application came bundled with is network shared. Not having either, I have no way to explore that particular avenue. I will, as time permits, look for any known software issues related to Easy-Photoprint or install/uninstall issues. Did this site or the software update have instructions? Is there any readme or txt instructions explaining how to update your older version?

I just thought the setting of some sort of registry policy was worth a shot as past users have had "Administrator" and privilege errors due to this.

Have you tried disabling anything running in the background that may be interferring with a successful install of this update?
