I am reinstalling programs with Windows Xp on a system that would not reboot. I was doing defrag and deleting files at the same time. I could not get past the longer NTFS format, so I used the quick NTFS format. I managed to install most of my programs except on two. I get a message: The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file: D:\Uninstall.bat. I don't remember seeing errors during the installation of those two programs. I remember noticing it when I wanted to start the programs. I cannot uninstall the programs either.

I tried uninstalling Net Framerwork, but still get the same error message. I partitioned my hard drive into C: D: And E:. This is the first time I tried this, I always have only used one partition, C:. Frank

PS Print Workshop 2010 is one of the programs and Printmaster Classic 2.0 is th other. I am trying to install both in D: to avoid using up all my space on C:.

Subsequent edit. Installed windows xp on another Hard drive. Only Print Workshop, does not install on other than C:. I get same error message as before on only Print Workshop 2010. I will try to explain more clearly later. I am short of time right now. One program prompted me to show complete path. Ie ..E:/Platinum 2.0. Perhaps I was suppose to do something similar for Print Shop. ie.. E:/Printshop 2010. I am going try again to see if I can contact Print shop again. I did not see an email support address or phone number last time I tried, but I will try again.

    Frank,

You are not making any sense to me.

Please give more info about your problem - how you fixed the computer, what do you mean by "I was doing defrag and deleting files at the same time. I could not get past the longer NTFS format, so I used the quick NTFS format" ?

You should delete files etc. BEFORE you defrag.

I did a new install on another hard drive. I formatted to end up with C:/ about 25 gig, the remainder E: of a 60 gig hard drive. I am trying to install all the programs on E: The first program I tried to install in E: drive was Print Workshop 2010. It seemed to complete installation without any errors. When I tried to start program from icon on Desktop. I got the posted error message:

"The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file: E:\Uninstall.bat

When I try to uninstall program, I get the same message. Printmaster Classic, installed no problems on E drive. And so did a Swann DVR program I have running my security cameras. I hope this makes more sense. I would be happy just to be able to uninstall program, for now. Frank

Solved. The program required a complete path to install to any drive other than the default path: C:\Program Files\Print Workshop 2010\. When I changed the above path to D:\Program Files\Print Workshop 2010\, program installed normally or without any problems or errors when I start program.

I am assuming this program also assumes, if a user departs from the default C:, that user must know, that a program requires a complete path to install correctly. I solved the problem by noticing another program asking also for a complete path.

    Try RevoUninstaller

BTW - there is no advantage in installing programs on a partition other than C:\ - every program installed places multiple files in the bowels of Windows and multiple entries in the Registry. If the C:\ drive has to be formatted all the programs will need to be re-installed. One could also argue that access to the program files by Windows is slower if not on the same partition.
