After re-booting my computer several times in an effort to get my Norton Anti-virus to enable itself as usual (opening the program and clicking the 'enable' button didn't work either) I decided that I needed to get an alternate anti-virus program while NAV wasn't working. I downloaded two programs, AVG and AntiVir. When I attempted to install each of them (after the attempt to install the other failed) I got the message: "C:\Documents & Settings\Owner\Desktop\AVGfree.exe THE HANDLE IS INVALID" in each case. Would anyone know why I'm unable to install these exe's? By the way, I've tested other programs' exe's and received the same message. I've also scanned for viruses, etc., using my updated A2 scanner. Thank you.

    Solution:

Aha! I have a program called ProcessGuard which has an option to block all new and changed programs. When I unchecked this option I was able to install new (ie. AVG & AntiVir) programs. I really must stop talking to myself :)

    Hi Lugwalker,

I use SSM, and one of the things I've learned is to shut it off whenever I install software, too many permission/denial requests and deal with what the installed software wants to do after the install process. That's the way for instance I control NAV's LiveUpdate and associated processes which I have no interest in allowing to run.

I gather PG is a new install for you. I wish more users would use apps like this, makes them a lot safer and more aware of what their system is doing.

    Regards - Charles
