I had already noted "the demise of mozilla" articles, and even found a thread here addressing it, but did not see anything here on the above pc mag article, entitled "are you safer with firefox? ", which appears to be impartial, and kind of throws out some concerns about firefox and maybe implying not necesarrily it's demise, but maybe peaking in terms of popularity/usage...

wondering what you all thought of it...

EDIT: my sincere apologies, wrong link to wrong article, here is the correct one by eweek...

keywester--It can be argued whether IE really has more inherent weakness against malware compared to alternative browsers. (MS has always known that trying to be compatible with everything--past and present--has made their programs more vulnerable.)
But there is no doubt that up to now most spyware techies have worked on cracking into Windows and IE, just because over 90% of people with PC's used those systems. Now that more and more people are using Firefox and others, the techies are turning attention to developing spyware for them.
So, I doubt this is the end of FF, but those that use it will have to stop being so convinced that they do not need protection against malware.

    keywester,

Mozilla is not being abandoned, it will continue to developed by a new group, which has yet to be named. Go to this link:
    http://www.mozillazine.org/

    Scroll down to this Headline:
First Community SeaMonkey Project Meeting Held

This is definitely not the end of Firefox or Thunderbird, and the Mozilla.org decision to discontinue work on Mozilla was due to lack of manpower. In order to do justice to Firefox and Thunderbird they discontinued the Mozilla project.

Jim, I believe most Firefox and Thunderbird users are well aware of the threat of malware, and do take precautions. I sure hope I'm not wrong, but I honestly believe this is the case.... :) BTW, nice to see you here on the Forum!

Ramona--I lurk from time to time. Maybe someday you will convince me to use FF! If anyone can do it, it will be you! :)

thanks ramona, but i had already been there, at least a few days ago i think, so i am aware of the mozilla situation, and am more concerned about firefox in general as it pertains to the comments in the pc mag article pointed to by the link:
