    The computer will boot if the windows xp cd is in the cd-rom ... I need help on my dell to get go the box will not open tag hvhg4g1 ... As You mention that when u press f1 and f2 nothing happens, Can U .... or Windows XP,would it be possible to restore my hard drive if I had occasion to format it?

    You'll have to boot to the Recovery console & run fixboot.
