    I have been using a certain profile but this AM when I clicked on it, it was missing. Why? I have no idea. I set it up again and I added this line to both lsprfs and jsprefs:

    user_pref( "mailnews.start_page.enabled ", false);

    But, that annoying ad is still appearing. I rebooted and it still appears every time I use the profile. I checked and the line is still in the prefs, all in one line by itself, but I can't get rid of that ad in the mailbox.This line has always worked before and it works in all my other profiles...any solutions as to why the profile may have disappeared and why I can't get rid of the ad? It is so annoying that I am tempted to just throw out that messenger entirely...

    TIA

    I don't know why your Netscape Profile would disappear. In Netscape Communicator you would find your profile folders in the Program Files\Netscape\Users folder. Even if you removed the Profile with the Profile Manager, the Users profile folder may still exist if you did not delete it.

    I assume you are talking about Netscape Communicator because with Netscape 6 and 7 you don't need to edit the prefs.js as there is a setting to diable the "Mail Start Page" in Edit | Preferences | Mail and Newsgroups. You remove the check in the box, "When Mail launches, show the Start Page in the message area ".

    For Netscape Communicator you DO need to edit the prefs.js, with all Netscape windows closed, by adding the line you mentioned, See

    How do I Get Rid of the Welcome to Netscape Messenger Page?

    Seems too obvious but are you sure you are editing the right prefs.js file?
