    printing applets???

I just found your BBS--it's really great info!!

How do I print an Applet window? I can only 'min-max-close' it with the mouse. There are no tool bars (except ones in top rt. corner), the screen doesn't right click for other options, ctrl - p doesn't work with it either. Please help !!

    Thanks, apollo490

As far as I know there is no way to print an applet using a browser. The only way I know of is to use the print screen key and then paste it into an app like MSPaint and print it from there. If the applet's in a window of it's own, you can capture only the applet window by using alt+print screen (make sure it's the active window by clicking on it first). If I'm wrong about this I'm sure somebody will speak up.

    Edit:
OOPS! I see you're new to the board. Welcome to the board. Sorry I can't do better for you on your first post. If there's a way to do it though, somebody here will know.

    Hello apollo,

Try this, curtesy of a member of this Board:

Thanks to a poster, Margot, this is the way to use the print screen key: hold down the <Alt> key and hit the <Print Screen> key. Bring up Wordpad or Word and paste. The image will be the top window.

    Regards - Charles

EDIT: Sorry zander, didn't read your answer caefully enough either.

In addition to the method outlined above use any one of the many screen grabber programs available - many are freeware and give you more control over what you grab. Just search Google.

I didn't find a Google search to be very helpful, but you probably can find something that will fit your needs at FreewareWeb.com.

Personally, I use PrintKey-Pro, a very versatile shareware screengrabber ... US$19.95, and well worth it.

    Hello apollo,

    Two free viewers:

Irfanview, very good and a lot of options http://www.irfanview.com/

ScreenHunter, less elaborate http://www.wisdom-soft.com/ use this when I need the image in .jpg format, the only format option for this utility in the free version.

I usually use the keyboard print option or the old PCMAG utility ScreenSeize which is charged for now.

    Regards - Charles

    Charles ...

IrfanView has a capture utility built in, but I can't get it to work.

    Hi Jim,

In that link I gave for irfanview, there are downloads for plugins. Don't know if that is whats needed for being able to capture screen images.

Irfanview's not really too self explanatory in this respect. When you click the capture in the options menu a window opens where you select what you want to capture. Notice on the upper right hand side of the window it shows a hotkey combo. By default it'll be ctrl+f11. Select whatever it is you want to capture and then click the start button. Irfanview will minimize, then click on the item you want to capture and then use the ctrl+f11 (or whatever it showed in the previous window) to capture it. Irfanview should then maximize showing you what it was you captured.

    Zander ...

Thanks for the explanation. Boy, is that a klutzy way to handle a screen capture!

Even though IrfanView is free, and I use it for other things (creating transparent .gifs, for example) I think I'll stick with Printkey-Pro ... it lets me capture a full screen or user-selectable rectangular/circular/elliptical areas of the screen, then print them or save them in .bmp, .gif, .jpg, .png, .pcx, or .tif formats. Lots of other options, too.

I can't argue with that statement. I guess if you have nothing else it would be better than nothing. I myself use Printkey 2000 . I think it's the same program as Printkey Pro. Printkey 2000 is freeware and I believe the name was changed when it became shareware. No doubt there's probably been more features added since the change. I don't think anything's been done with PK 2000 since the change. It does what I need it to though.

PrintKey was one of the very first utilities I ran across when I got my first PC back in the summer of '97.

Fred Bolliger, the author, constantly improved the program, and incorporated a number of suggestions I made. I also made the mistake :))) of suggesting to him that PrintKey was too good to remain freeware ... so, when it became shareware I felt honor-bound to buy it. I still keep a copy of the last freeware version of PK 2000 for friends who need a good screen capture utility, but don't need the bells and whistles that PrintKey-Pro sports.

Fred no longer supports the freeware version, and I don't know if it's even available in any utility libraries.

    Addendum, 12-17-03:

Yep, Printkey 2000 v5.10, the last freeware version before it went shareware as PrintKey-Pro, is available on FreewareWeb.com.

Thanks for all your posts. You made me feel really welcomed here.
I am going to download the Print Key 2000 and check that out.
Everyboby gave me so many options I know i'll be able to con-quer my applet challange. I have a business related chat room
I visit weekly and the info shared is pretty good. Now I can save(print) the info. Thanks again.
