Text to Speech function doesn't work

    Going to Speech icon in control panel I can't get any voice to "test here ". Keep getting error message to try another voice. I installed microsoft SDK SAPI 5.1 but this didn't help. I wonder if I need to reinstall WinXP home edition again. I think I corrupted some files by installing and uninstalling some speak apps.
    Any help appreciated
