    This is interesting
    gemal.dk - BrowserSpy: http://www.gemal.dk/browserspy/

To basic for most of you , but i didnt know websites were capable of seeing some things, I wonder why our windows BBS doesnt have some of these mm buttons ?It would help us greatly.
    ie Java version and such.
Be aware though after you go there check within the windows downloaded programs files folder for a plugin they sometimes place there without any prompts.. strange though I just went there and no plugin now..
( I dont mean the one for parasite detection , from doxie deck)

    Regards
    Lonny

    Thanks Lonny. Interesting .

I've been to the Mozilla pages at http://www.gemal.dk/ but never to browserspy.

Also, some good links at the bottom, including how to browse safely - Microsoft site, who else needs to worry, really ;) -
and "Origin of a browser link to http://www.sscnet.ucla.edu/mozilla/ -a Netscape Time capsule, which begins.....................

Hi Alice have some questions for you and the others that use alternative browsers.
You have both Netscape and IE and the sunjava cpl(control panel applet)right.?
On the browser tab do you have it set to ms IE and Netscape,
I don't use it any-longer for now with IE, find it problematic ,kept getting java errors to do with directX(ddhelp) the new MS seams a-Little faster,
What is it again you surf with ?
But anyway when you update it do you install over the top, then having two or more choices on the advanced tab, choose which version of the plugin to use ?
do you uninstall the webstart thing?

also my connection service duk walmart dialup, rent's leases or bought rights to use Compuserve , 2000 ver 6(similar) (which AOL owns) anyway again cs version 5 and 6 uses the IE as the engine.
confusing, which plugin should this thing use

the cs2000 ver 7 is the full version of Netscape I hear, somehow branded, so has to use the sunjava VM

our usual recommendations are to , for script errors and java related problems
1 update, win-up, or, and 2 install the latest version of windows script engine, see we still get script error's even though cs uses IE and IE settings are to not display an error about every etc etc,, Is why I refuse to surf with that thing, that and find it confining
(the all in one window)3 the install sunjava VM

Ive Hear'd AOL has there own VM customized version, I'm I correct ?

    Thank's
    Lonny

I have Netscape Communicator 4.79, which uses it's own version of Java that's installed as part of the browser. NS4.79 can also use Sun's java. I tried it with Sun's version 1.3.1 - you switch back and forth between Sun's Java and Netscape's internal Java using Netscape's own preferences. Netscape 4.xx versions are completely different from Netscape 6 or Netscape 7 versions.

I have Mozilla 1.0.1, which is what Netscape 7.0 is based on. It can ONLY use Sun's Java, or no Java at all. You don't select ANYTHING in the Java Plugin Control Panel to enable or disable Sun's Java in Mozilla 1.0.1. If you want to switch Java off altogether you can do that in Mozilla's preferences (Advanced)

I had Mozilla working with Sun's Java Plugin version 1.3.1 but that version couldn't be used with Internet Explorer 5.5sp2 so I UNinstalled Sun's 1.3.1 Java Plugin and installed Sun's 1.4.0_01, which I can also use with Internet Explorer if I want.

On switching in the Sun Java Control Panel, Browser tab:

    There are two entries there:
    Microsoft Internet Explorer
    Netscape 6

You can check or uncheck Internet Explorer there, in the Java Plugin control panel (browser tab) OR, if it's already checked, then a new Java (Sun) heading appears in IE's Internet Options, Advanced tab, right above the Microsoft VM heading, with the option, "use Java 2 v1.4.0_01 for <applet> (requires restart ". . I do it that way since sometimes using the Java Plugin Control Panel to check or uncheck IE hangs the system.

Right now I have neither IE or Netscape 6 checked in the control panel, Sun Java Plugin, browser tab, since I don't have Netscape 6 and I'm using the Microsoft VM (version 3810) for Internet Explorer.

I haven't ever gotten any errors using Sun's Java in IE. It just takes a while to load up. I think the Microsoft VM is already loaded when you start Windows but don't hold me to that.
Mozilla 1.0.1 with Sun's Java 1.4.0_01, or sometimes IE5.5sp2 with the Microsoft VM 3810. I no longer use Nwetscape 4.79. My husband uses eithe NS4.79 or IE5.5sp2 on my machine. On his Apple Ibook he uses Netscape 7.0 that I installed on it, mainly. or the IE 5.1 that came preinstalled.

When I went from Sun's Java 1.3.1 to 1.4.0_01, I uninstalled 1.3.1 first. You don't need to check Internet Explorer or Netscape 6. If I remember right (and I may be wrong!) IE was pre-checked, but I just UNchecked it.

I don't remember whether Sun's 1.3.1 plugin installation included Web Start or not. With 1.4.0_01, the Web Start application was installed automativcaly with the Java Plugin installation. I just Uninstalled it later on, from Control Panel Add/Remove. The Web Start program is something I have no use for (I think it lets you run java applets outside of the browser)

I know nothing about Compuserve 2000 6 or 7, or the branded versions of Netscape it may use. If it's Netscape 6 or 7 then it must use Sun's Java.

I don't use any ISP's software, by the way, or thier branded browsers! Just "pure, unadulterated" versions of IE, Netscape or Mozilla, directly from Microsoft, or Netscape, or Mozilla.org. I don't use any connection software either, just Windows Dial-Up-Networking that I set up myself. My ISP is AT&T Worldnet, and you don't need any connection software with thier standard duial up plan. Here is the ATT explanation for creating your own DUN connection in Windows (how I connect)

    thanks Alice

someday I'll try the over the top install of sunjava VM w/plugin
Just to see if then theres two to choose from.

Keep in mind when people ask for help on the netscape section,
(I plan to stay as fare away as possible)
Of those wierd version's as there completly (sort-of) differant then a regular netscape ..and or IE
They get confused and gather they are useing IE when browsing with cs2000 browser and vis versa, or maybe send then to there own forum----type help 2000 in the address bar and click go
I dont even want to .think about. aol
But I hear aol is offering some sort of migration to CS users

guess you know the latest is 1.4.1_02----whoops scratch that
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition 1.4.1_03 is available for download:
    Windows (English Only)
    Windows (All Languages)

strange cpl lists one plugin , default and other, if I go tool's internet options settings view objects there is two. both
    1.4.1_02

About you're last paragraph ------I wish "pure, unadulterated "
did have AT&T once but it was that 495 plan -then 777-
I dont think kindly of AT&T

    Bye

Here's something I found on your ddhelp error using Sun's Java...
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=32&thread=363167
    also
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?thread=330898&forum=32&message=1348258

You would be better off posting a new question with the exact error message, Java Plugin version and what you were doing when the error occurred.

    You could also try this:

UNinstall all versions of Sun's Java 2 Runtime Environment and Java Webstart programs from Add/Remove, reboot, then with all background programs closed and Antivirus disabled, install the newest version from http://www.java.com/en/index.jsp or http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/download.html
    (you want the J2SE v 1.4.1_03 JREDownload )

This topic has 0 replies on 1 page (first one)
second think I had already seen.
common denominator Radeon7500 graphics card with derectX
especially when it was beta and release candidate.
and maybe not turning off av program for both install and uninstall

The only real problem I had, occasionally was getting random
ddhelp errors (and other seemingly unrelated) while surfing but most of all just exiting the sunjava applet.
I would post another subject But now have no problems,I'm using MS's VM

everyone should flood sunjava's forums asking for a none developer section,, :) becouse will all soon be using it.(maybe)
Ive posted there and never receive any help, several times.
    did just now to..

You could try the various Netscape/Mozilla user forums for now, for example, besides the Netscape forum here, there are these:

    http://ufaq.jaygarcia.com/modules.php?name=Forums
    http://sillydog.org/forum/index.php
    http://www.mozillazine.org/forums/
    http://www.holgermetzger.de/forum/index.php

The best help, though, would be on the netscape newsgroups such as snews://secnews.netscape.com/netscape.netscape7.windows See http://www.ufaq.org/modules.php?name=Sections&op=viewarticle&artid=21
for more Netscape and Mozilla newsgroup links

You could also try searching http://groups.google.com for keywords like:
Sun Java Plugin Netscape "Internet Explorer" error
then sort by date to get the latest posts.

    Compuserve Help

Working on a friend's computer and am having problems accessing alot of websites, particularly Windows Update so I can't update his machine. I can however access mail pages or search engines and have no prob with email. I've deleted the cookies and temp files. This problem was there with an older version of I.E. so I put a newer version on there. Same problem occurred so I uninstalled I.E. and reinstalled without much more success on the internet.

He is now running WinXP Pro that he bought and I put on there, but no change to internet website access. His ISP is Compuserve. I have never dealt with this before so I am unclear where to go next. His internet options have Active X enabled.

Well first Off even though Compuserve 5 & 6 use internet explorer's engine they would still have to minumize it and go to windows update with Internet explorer
compuserve 2000 ver 7 uses its own netscap engine, but that above is true with it also.
    Maybe thats IT ?

(you should start a new topic for this matter)

There likely to know more about these issuse in this section
