I am currently tasked with a project to put 2 new hard drives in a terminal server that is not the domain controller.

I have Veritas Backup Exec 10d and what I would like to do is backup the entire server to a tape over the network, take the old drives out (only 2 drive spaces) and put the new drives in, configure the RAID set, install windows server 2003, update to the server to the same service pack, and then restore from the backup tape to what is hopefully esxactly the same server with bigger drives.

The problem I have is that I don't know if I need to join the server to the domain first, or if I just get it to the updated point and restore the backup.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Another thing I forgot to add is that the terminal server has to access teh tape drives via the network. How will this affect the process?

    Is it hardware raid?

I would use a product like Acronis True Image Echo Server or StorageCraft, works very nice. You would be better off with a imaging program, not a backup program.

Does BE 10 do bare metal restores .. i thought it jsut could do data.
