Can someone teach me how to make a "Template "? I'm trying to make a form that can use (4 ) 4 1/4" X 5 1/2" data cards on one page. I bought the cards (Avery # 8577) and made up the "Forms" (format) I want, but I can't create a template that will let me come back to Word ('97) later and then enter new info in the card fields without messing up the "form" !?!. I've got a couple of "dummies" books, but no help. I went to a few "template.coms "... same thing. Also, can the template be loaded onto a floppy?

This stuff may seem really simple, but not to me...

    Thanks

Once you've got your template the way you want it, you need to save it as a .dot, not .doc, file so Word will know it's a template. That way, when you open it, anything you write to it won't go on the template itself. When Word opens a .dot file, it opens it as a "blank document" so any saves will be in .doc format. Confused yet?

At any rate, first do a search on your computer for "*.dot* files (without the quotes). That will let you know where the template files are stored. Remember that path and when you are ready to save your template, save it to that folder.

Then when you want to open a blank template, in Word go to File>New and all available templates will be displayed.

Yes, you can put any file on a floppy if it's small enough...1.44 megs is what they say they'll hold but formatting takes up some space on them so they'll actually only hold 1.37 megs of data.
