Hi there, I am enduring a problem at the moment that when my PC freezes occasionally (1 problem) when I reboot thru the reset switch (as I carnt ctrl/alt/delete) all my Temporary internet files have disappeared!, but not the cookies. I have no programs that are assigned this task of clearing out thihese files, as I need them daily, as I visit a lot of shockwave sites, and as I am on dialup, it takes forever to reload them :-(

I was getting an error in the event/system log that said an error had occured in the SR (System Restore) filter, and all monitoring has stopped

I have done a reinstall, full adaware virus scan with a clean hard drive.

Until I can get to the bottom of this machine occasionally freezing, is there a freeware program that will allow you copy your IE Temp internet Cache files and then when I start the PC after a reboot, i can just paste them back there.

All system temps are normal: CPU 32 SYS 35 NB 50

    Many thanks, Chris

    Chris,

In IE 6 go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced - scroll down to Security and make sure that ' Empty Temp Internet Files Folder when Browser is Closed ' is unchecked.

Hi all, just to quickly report back that I found out why the PC was very occasionally freezing, hence the reason I lost all the Temp Internet files. It was the PC's power supply. It was new, and was not faulty as such, but was rated at much less than what was advertised on the PC's case box. 220w v 380w (advertised)

It had an 8A 12v+ output that was the bareset minimum recommended by Intel for the P4 2.8c to run, leaving little for anything else.

My experience may prove useful to other folk who experience occasional freezes.

    Cheers Chris

so Did you get a bigger power supplie ?
if so then no problems now ?

Strange I think that option doesnt work for the majority of folks
mostly to do with letting ISP's update our Internet Exlplorer or oem installs?
I had to put in place registry entries to correct it,, works now If and when I set it to ..

    Lonny,

You may well be right, but it is not a problem I've come across to date. I may be fortunate in that my IE is pure MS and all my ISP supplies is a dialup 'manager' applet.

Yes I replaced the PS with an Antec Trupower 330, which is enough for my current setup, may invest in a bigger one down the track if I decide to add more components :D
