I've been trying to get a PC to display on a standard TV using the tv-out port on the graphics card (s-video).

The cable is about 3 metres. I can only get a very poor display, and then only as a "continuation" screen. I know that writing will never be the same quality but I can only get black and white or at best grey/washed-out colour and very pixilated/grainy. Sound is not a problem as this can still come from the PC.

At the TV end I'm using a Scart connection with the switch set to "IN" and s-video cable.

What kind of picture should I expect? Any advice would be helpful.

The picture quality on a tv is acceptable but no where near as good as on the PC. The icons are a little rough on the eyes, and reading text (web pages) is not to good. but using it for say DVD playback should be similar to a standalone DVD.

Make sure in the cards properties that it's set to output in PAL not NTSC.
Check for any settings on the tv setup for S-video and Scart etc.

Have you the option to connect using an RCA video out from the graphics card to an RCA video in on the TV. Try that.

I would have though it would be automatic, but you may have to reduce the resolution on the graphics card to 800x600 (or 640x480) and maybe even drop the refresh rate.

Checked for latest drivers/software for the card?
