My CDW started not working properly. It will play audio cd's okay but not driver cd's etc. I have not made any changes to my system, windows xp pro.
I have already uninstalled the cdw from device manager and had windows re-install. No luck.
TDK doesn't have an updated driver for it and windows update driver area says the same thing.
When you load the disc, the light flashes for about 10 seconds then the tray opens back up.
I have tried about 10 different discs and had only one get read yet all my audio cd's work fine. Very frustrating.
Time for a new drive? Any help is welcomed, TIA.

Strange problem. Usually if a normal (data) CD can be read, even if audio CDs cannot be read, you know that the is drive is functioning but has trouble with the audio disk system. Not reading standard commercial (not burnt) disks is out of the ordinary. My searches did not reveal any immediate hits.

    Update your motherboard/chipset drivers.

After that I would try a different CD reader/writer. If it carries over to another drive, then the problem is in the (burner) software/Windows.

Thanks Mattman. I will try these sites but I feel a new drive will be my next step. :)
