I am running Windows XP SP3. Updated TB to version 6.0. When relaunched, TB is unable to connect with Earthlink's pop mail server. Tested TB 6.0 ability to send messages with successful results.

TB 6.0 was uninstalled, browser cache and Windows Temp file folders cleared, anti-virus software disabled, and TB 6.0 downloaded again and installed. TB still unable to connect and download messages.

Tested TB 6.0 under TB Safe Mode: TB still unable to connect.

TB Error Console initially displayed only this error:

Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80070057 (NS_ERROR_ILLEGAL_VALUE) [nsIWebNavigation.loadURI]" nsresult: "0x80070057 (NS_ERROR_ILLEGAL_VALUE)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://global/content/viewSource.js :: viewSource :: line 179" data: no]

The Error Console also listed the following 7 messages. When each messaged is Evaluated, the same error message displayed below appears.

I have posted the issue on the Thunderbird Forum and on Bugzilla but without any successful suggestions to-date for resolution. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Also, is there a way to download TB 5.0 to go back to until the 6.0 issue is resolved?

I located a copy of the full TB 5.0 installer, so I removed TB 6.0 and installed 5.0. TB was still unable to connect to Earthlink's pop mail server. The Error Console displayed this different error message:

Error: An error occurred executing the cmd_getNewMessages command: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x8055000a [nsIMsgIncomingServer.getNewMessages]" nsresult: "0x8055000a (<unknown>)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://messenger/content/mailWindowOverlay.js :: GetNewMsgs :: line 2403" data: no]
    Source File: chrome://global/content/globalOverlay.js
    Line: 100

I hoped that going back to 5.0 would get me going again but no such luck. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

It may not be Thunderbird at all. Have you called your ISP and spoken with a technician?

Earthlink initially said there were no issues with the server. This morning they notified me that the sever had been taken down to resolve "undefined issues ".

So, after a lot of hassle, there is no issue with TB 6.0 and my problems were with the ISP and this thread can now be closed.

LOL... I had a suspicion that might be the case. It happened to me about a month ago and I was convinced it was a T-bird issue until proven otherwise. Good to hear, BirdieBob.
