For some reason my Norton Antivirus program will not do a weekly scan automatically.

The Norton settings are straight forward but the XP. ???. I certainly would appreciate if someone who is familiar with Windows XP Pro could let me know what settings I should check.

    Many Thanks.

Try going to Task Scheduler (Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Task Scheduler), click on Add New Task and step through the Wizard, setting up a Norton AV scan to run at the same time, frequency, etc., as you have it set up in Norton, itself.

Since, as my signature says, I don't know how much you know...you do leave the computer running in normal mode, i.e., not in Standby or Hibernate, at the time you have had the scan scheduled to start?

The Norton scheduler should be independent of Windows and you should probably contacy Norton.

What Windows settings are you talking about? The schedule is set up through Norton. But if you use the Windows Task Scheduler, be sure you have a login password---my understanding is that it won't work without it. And if you run services.msc you can check to be sure the Scheduler is set to automatic. If it is set to Manual, it won't start anything at the scheduled time unless you start it manually.

As great as those scheduled things seem to be, I always find that they start at an inopportune time no matter when I schedule them. If it's 4 AM, then I can't sleep the next night and I'm on the computer at 4 AM :( .

You'll notice that MS dispensed with those installed schedules for maintenance with XP---nobody liked them. I prefer just to start things manually.
