I’m trying to create a scheduled task using task scheduler in Windows 7.

I get all the way to the end and then when I click finish and okay it
tells me that an error has occurred "“ something about a user account
restriction or blank password or something.

I think it’s supposed to ask me for my password, but I don’t know that I
even have one or whether or not my account is restricted.

This may have something to do with the infamous UAC , which may have been
set up initially on this PC to not bug me every few minutes for my okay.

    Any advice?

Btw, the task I'm trying to set up is to create an automatic system
restore point every day. In Win 7, automatic system restore points are
created only when no other restore point (like from a windows update) has
been created in the last 7 days. I learned how to create that task from another thread on this forum.

How do you log into your account ? Do you give password or just select user name ?

Whats the flavor of Win 7 you are using ?

As far back as XP, as I recall, you could only set up a system based scheduled task as an admin with a password - blank passwords are not accepted. The same is true of 7. The last line of Arie's instructions .....
AFAIK a scheduled task which runs a non-system based program does not require admin rights or a password..

    Did you follow these instructions?

Have you set a password on your user account?

Thanks for the help, but it turns out that system restore did start creating automatic restore points despite the error messages I got.

Don't ask me what it means, but it seems to be working just fine.

    So let's mark this resolved!
