Have been successful with forum help in automating defrag and disk cleanup with Windows XP Task Scheduler. Am having difficulty in automating Check Disk (error checking) and Ad-aware SE Personal (free program) and would appreciate any suggestions.

    Batch file for Check Disk: "CHKDSK C: /R /I /C ".
When I attempt to run Check Disk, I get the message "File system type is NTFS, cannot lock current drive. Volume is in use by another process ".

    Batch file for Ad-Aware is "C:program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-aware SE Personal\Ad-aware.exe C:\ +A +1 ". Ad-aware will not start.

    Thanks ...

You cannot run chkdsk from within Windows - only at boot.

If you go Start > Run > cmd and at the C:\ prompt type chkdsk you will get a mesage to that effect.
