I've noticed that I have 55 processes running, according to Task Manager.

Does that necessarily sound like too many? Anything look suspicious here?

After clicking on the images below you may have to use the zoom tool (125%) in the bottom r-hand corner of this screen to see the attachments clearly.

I have 8 windows open, and 78 processes running, and that's with start-up and services streamlined.

Your picture is missing the description on the right hand side.

You have one on me, how did you embed the pics?

Hi Lugwalker. Yes, having 55 processes running in Task Manager is a lot. In order to remove some processes that you dont need, click Start< Control Panel< Add/Remove Programs and remove any programs that you don't use. Also disable any Windows Services that you don't need by following Black Vipers Services Guide.

I see, unfortunately I have been unemployed since May 2009, so lots of time to volunteer, but a little strapped for cash.

Sorry to hear that, but there is a workaround ....

Post your image on a photo hosting site such as Photobucket .... and post the URL here.

Your Welcome. If you have any other questions feel free to just ask. Is your computer running any faster now?

As soon as I digest the contents of Black Viper's site I'll report back, Evan. :)

I tried the safe script, all seemed well (even seemed a little faster, but still 76 processes running. Also it seems to interfere with my TV tuner. Media Center can't detect a signal anymore. I had backed-up the registry, but it won't restore everything.

So I roll back to a few days ago, same thing, this is very reminiscent of my big trouble of a few months ago, this is just how it started.

Jvinvan, when I disable services I don't use the reigstry scripts. I have always disabled the services that I don't need, one at a time though the services.msc window and I reboot in between each one I disable to make sure that the OS and my programs still work as expected. I would suggest that instead of using the registry script, you should disable the services manually one at a time rebooting in between of disabling each one in the services window until you find the one thats causing your TV tuner to not function. This method is fairly easy to troubleshoot in case you run into problems.

Its amazing you have 76 processes running on your system. I only have about 25 processes running on my computer.

I know, seems like too many, 25 are "mine" (AvG 3, Acronis 4, etc) the other 50 are windows processes.

I did do a manual selection of services, such a time consuming process. I just thought I would try Black Viper's script, feeling [maybe overly] confident I could easily restore from my back-up.

I running Xp Home on a P4 on my left, it it has only 28 process running.

I reinstalled the tuner driver and that seem to have fixed the problem. It still intrigues me how I can restore the partition from a full backup, yet it doesn't run like it did at the time of the backup.

I hope you guys don't mind me riding shotgun on Lugwalker's thread.
