Resolved Task Manager memory

    In Task Manager > Performance - Physical Memory (MB), I see
    Total 4030
    Cached 1324
    Available 1300
    Free 32

    If the total memory is 4GB, why do the other 3 entries add up to only 2.6GB?

    Some memory is always reserved for your hardware, your does seem quite high though.
    Read through this guide which explain what is going on and how to check that all your settings are correct.

    Hmm - not checked that before - on my desktop the sum is greater than the installed memory :eek:

    I suspect that some of the availible memory is cached.

    Thanks, will follow your advice and ignore it.

    I reduced my Photoshop cache from 2 GB to 1 GB ... and now the WTM shows only 2.2GB :) ... although usage shows 2.87GB.
