It is deceased, it is no more, it has gone to meet its maker, it is an ex task manager (& other such Monty Python parrot sketch references)

But seriously, it has vanished. Cntrl/Alt/Del - nothing. Not a sausage.
It's a right pain coz now if any program freezes, I have to turn the PC off.Any ideas?

Right click on the taskbar. Do you see it listed in the menu? If so, does it open if you click on it?

    Task Manager

The file TaskMgr.exe is found in C:\Windows\System32\taskmgr.exe.

    Drag it to C\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

You will be offered the option to Copy, Move, Create Shortcut.
    Choose "Create Shortcut "

When you re-boot, it should startup automatically. Right click on the shortcut you created and select "Properties ". Click the "Shortcut Tab in Properties and you will see an entry "Run ". Click on the drop down arrow and select "Minimised" and then click OK to close the Properties box down.

Task Manager will now always start up minimised to the system tray alongside the clock.

Is it only task manager that doesn't work or does the pc have other problems. Does help and support work? How about system restore? Check around with some of these types of things. Sometimes when one of these system processes doesn't work there's more that don't. It would be nice to know if task manager is the only problem or if there's more.

Have you checked to see if you have taskmgr.exe in your system32 folder? If so, what happens when you double click on it?

Usually not being able to access TM is indicative of wider problems per Zander.

You can also give bringing up TM a different way a shot: ctrl - shift - esc in that sequence. This bypasses the user security level check, ie, admin/limited user, its faster because of that baypass.

    Hello DoctorBeaver,

    Excellent advice from ghemant.

Go to Quicklinks > Recommended > Security at the top of this page and run the on line scanners and download/install Spybot/Ad-Aware if you haven't done so already.
