    Hey guys
I just bought a new computer and put windows 2003 server on my other one. I got a domain set up when I go to log on to my server from my computer it takes forever to log on. My servers at work log on quickyly. Is there a setting on my server i can change to make it log on right? I am fairly new with the server so sorry if this is a stupid question.

Not a stupid question but in fact a common mistake for the novest. :D :D

Your Client PC is most likely pointed to the net for it's first choice of DNS information. So at log on it's looking all over the net trying to find it's domain controller. :D :D

Try making the clients first choice for DNS the local IP of the server and see what happens. ;) ;)

Im sure your router is handeling DHCP and it's telling all DHCP users to go to the default gateway. (Ushally 192.168.1.1) for DNS.

    Either:
A: Statically enter the DNS entries. (Local Server first and then the net)
B: some routers will allow you to do this
C: Make the server the DHCP server with DNS info in the scope
D: Make the Domain controller a qualified DNS server and point the clients to the DC for all of their DNS requests.

BTW, if you choose any option but "D" you will notice lots of DNS errors in your logs of the server. That's because a DC wont play nice unless it handles DNS for the Domain.

    Good Luck! ;)
