sywsves.exe

My daughter uses our old computer (win95) to do e-mail and instant messaging. There is now a trojan on it, which isn't mentioned on this BBS, but is mentioned several times on other web sites. A key file that seems to be generating a lot of hits on the firewall is SYWSVCS.EXE.

I'm scanning now with Norton, nothing has come up yet. Using the Win 95 version of Ad-Aware, it didn't find anything but it has been a long time since they printed an update for that version. Their new version requires Win98.

I tried Spybot, but it wouldn't download the update file without Checksum errors when I tried my 1.3 version. So I downloaded 1.4, but it won't install correctly, giving me two error pop-ups in quick succession, one saying

"The SPYBOT.EXE file is linked to missing export user32.DLL:EndMenu"

AND

"Unable to execute file: C:\Program Files \Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4\SpybotSD.exe CreateProcess failed;code 31 A device attached to the system is not functioning. "

I don't know if the problem file SYWSVCS.EXE is causing these errors or is unrelated.

Any thoughts?
