I'm having 2 problems that I can not resolve at all.

About a month ago I was no longer seeing systray notification popups. Absolutely no notification on anything. This includes hardware installing, Windows updating, files ready to write when recording and every thing else.

Other problem just start this morning. CD/DVD recorder acting like a regular CD/DVD. I can copy temporary files to record, but in Windows Explorer on CD Writing Tasks it show "Write these files to CD ". Clicking it does nothing. Clicking "Delete temporary files" does nothing either.
Nero is still able to erase and record without any problems. But for simple tasks, I'd rather use the Windows Explorer to record.

I deleted the CD/DVD in Device Manager in safe mode and restarted and let Windows reinstall, but end result is the same. Device Manager show the correct device installed.

As a side note, issue #1 is not a problem when logged on as another user. Issue #2 is a problem regardless of user logged on.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

For the System Tray issue, it might be that the popups are hidden behind the notification bar. There is no known solution to this problem. It is caused by a bug in Windows. None of the "fixes" found elsewhere on the Internet actually work.

    There are some workarounds:
    • Avoid using the Show Desktop shortcut (Windows+D) as this often causes the problem to occur. Use Minimize All Windows (Windows+M) instead.
    • Don't use "Keep the taskbar on top of other windows ". Right-click the taskbar, select properties, clear the check box for this option and then click OK.
    • If you prefer to keep the taskbar on top of other windows, then deselecting this option as described above, and then reselecting it again, restores the correct window order and brings the tooltips back to the front, until the next time!

For the CD burning issue, first open My Computer. Right click on the problem drive and choose Properties. Look under the Recording tab to make sure that recording is enabled. If it is enabled, please then see this Microsoft Knowledge base article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;316529

Doh, LOL. Sorry about posting in the wrong thread. Clicked on the wrong one. My eye saw it, but the click was else where.

    Ok...
The systray notification hiding behind the taskbar was a good idea and I tried those suggestions just in case, but they didn't work. I'm literality getting no systray popups. Best way for me to test this is to copy files to the CD recorder and a CD disk icon is placed in the systray. There is suppose to be a message from that icon saying "Files are ready/waiting to be written ". I get nothing.
I'm totally getting frustrated with this. I tried every thing I could think of short of deleting and reinstalling Windows. And what is worse, I'm not sure what even caused this. As long as I've had XP Pro, this is the first time this has happened.

As for the CD/DVD recording problem, under properties, recording is enabled.
I looked at that MKB and the drivetype was a 1 instead as a 2. I changed that but it didn't work. Restart just in case and same result. Nothing.

I usually good at fixing my own issues. But these 2 problems is the bomb and I'm ready to explode. Ugh.

    Thank you again.

Edit > Systray messages has been restored. It was balloon tips under Tweak UI. Though I didn't originally uncheck that.

2nd Edit > Right clicking CD/DVD and writing or deleting works. But not clicking "Writing these files to CD" in Explorer.
    Making head-way finally. Almost there.
