System32\System file missing or corrupt

    Has anyone else run into this error message at boot-up, which keeps Windows from starting/running?
    Any fixes?

    That's a Registry hive and usually requires a full clean install to fix.

    If you need to backup any data, you'll have to use 3rd party help such a drive imaging software. That assumes you have the NTFS file system. If you use FAT32, it's much easier.

    MS actually offers a sort of feeble attempt at your situation that might allow for data recovery but I have never heard anyone brag about it.

    Also, you should try System Restore just for laughs.
