My computer always restarts when I shutdown/hibernate/standby. It completes the process without issue but laptop just doesn't poweroff. I have turned off the feature to restart on error but doesn't help. I don't have the roxio software installed which is known to cause such issues.

I should add that this problem started several months ago when I switched out the motherboard on my laptop. I thought maybe it was a hardware issue up until I started another post about my recent woes with an svchost error. For some reason, the problem seemed to have gone away when I started having the svchost issue. But now that everything is fixed the poweroff issue is back. Now I know it can be fixed since I saw for several days it was working correctly.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Dell inspiron e1505 running Windows XP ME Sp3.

Hi, have you had a look in BIOS to see if ACPI is set correctly?
Are you running XP & ME on the laptop together?
It would help others if you entered your System Details in your User CP. Neil.

Have you installed the motherboard drivers? If so, perhaps a trip to the manufacture's website for updated drivers?

I'm running XP Media Edition SP3. I have checked the bios settings and all looks correct. I will have another look as well as add info to my user cp.

    Thanks.

I have installed all the latest drivers from Dell for my machine. I have run driver genius and everything says it's updated.
