    Hello,

I do not want to shut down my PC, Cause if I do so the system becomes unstable. I can restart my PC over and over with no issuses, but if I shut the PC off for no no amount of time wheter its 30 sec, 5 in or over night the system is ustable when i turn my machine back on.

Some time I get a BSOD the first one is allways with out a code it just reads that if some thing has changed please remove it, this wil just keep happening over and over some time with the BSOD some times with out. I can no go past till i run the reccommened recovery consle. recovery consle will some times not be able to fix the issue or it will say the file system on the disk is corrupt and need to run CHKDSK, which it does and says its done so succesfully and no error code just 0x0.

this some time helps but its randome sometimes the system will reboot while windows is loading to the welcome screen or just crash, than it will run CHKDSK on reboot once the OS final starts I can only use it for about 5 min till it crashes some times with a BSOD (Memory_Management) message or some times none at all. At this pint the proble repeats it self, some time running CHKDSK or asking that I run the recovery consol.

the machine does not seem to become stable by any meens other than just out of the blue I can shut the PC down it may fix it I some time have to remove the ram but some times the system repairs it self during its fits, I dont know I am stumped it totaly randome it seems.

I replace the motherboard, than the memmory I swaped the Hard disk nothing workd I thought it may be a short in the case I took it to a local shop the asked him to check. They said it was the memmory and the hard disk I replaced them again and yet the problem remains. I asked if they could check for a short in the case they said the OS needs to be re installed yet Ive done that as well I do it about every 3 months any ways I dont think they are listing its probly a short I asume so a new case is on the way.

Do you folks have any advice Bleeping computers website reccommended this site.

    Thanks Grin.

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

Have you checked that the BIOS is capable of running that processor?

Minimum BIOS release detailed here .....

    http://uk.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=cf8IZzbU4m6GHKnW - CPU Support

I see the mobo has onboard graphice - if you remove your ATI card temporarily does the problem remain?

If you think a short is causing the problem remove the mobo from the case and sit it on an insulating surface, connect up the basics and see if the problem is resolved.

Having replaced the motherboard, memory - which I am sure you have checked as compatible, and the hard drive there's not much left save the CPU and the PSU.

Have you checked all the cables?

If you have any of the Asus overclocking features enabled then disable them and see if the problem is resolved.

As a footnote you have installed the chipset drivers?

I have moved your thread to the hardware forum as this is not, IMO, a Windows 7 specific problem with title edit.

Do you have any hardware installed that might not have a good set of Windows 7 64Bit drivers? Any PCI/PCI-e cards installed? Does the manufacturer of all the hardware supply a good set of 64Bit drivers?

Try booting into Safe Mode, is it stable there? You should be able to run some basic programs? Look in Device Manager for if there are error messages.

The settings in the BIOS might be incorrect, so go into the BIOS at startup and use "Set Defaults" or read in the motherboard manual on how to clear the CMOS. Look at the "environmental readouts" in the BIOS (Voltages/temperatures).

Read any error messages carefully. You might need to use the dump debugging tool from Microsoft. Your system is not just blue-screening though, it appears to be restarting and freezing (crashing?).

Read through the motherboard manual for if there are any special requirements (I see Asus compatible RAM is mainly 2GB, some at 6GB using kits of 3).

Check at the GSkill website if your RAM is recommended for that motherboard.

Look for a BIOS upgrade at Asus. YOU CANNOT RUN A BIOS UPGRADE IN WINDOWS THOUGH, BECAUSE WINDOWS IS UNSTABLE. You must boot to a CD/DVD to do it.

If your parts seem compatible (it's an Asus graphics adapter, right?), contact Asus through their "Contact Us" webpage. You might not want to hold your breath for a reply though.

    Matt

I removed the video card and am running on the on-board graphics but same un-stablilty when booting windows normally.
As for as i can see the motherboard supports my CPU and RAM and amount of ram, if I remove all but 1 RAM chip it is unstable on all RAM chips, no memory errors I checked cabling well replaced the SATA cables and swapped PSU leads around.

bios is up to date, video is at 9.7 its older but the new driver changes nothing other than making EQ2 run crappy so I keep 9.7. If I install the chip set driver from asus I get no video till I re-install 9.7 again for some reason the chip set drivers an old graphics driver than doesn't work?

Matt said something about asus compatible ram is mainly 2GB I'm not sure if he means my board or just asus in general?

Bios is updated and running in defaults, no asus performance programs or amd overclock programs are installed.

what is you advice on testing my system out side of its case, in a standard home environment.

System is stable in safe mode, bios is up to date.
I removed my graphics card and am running off on-board device but is unstable. As far as I can see my all the info is that my CPU is supported and memmory as well as the size of it and configuration.
I am not running any overclocking programs or asus performance enhancers.
I replaced my SATA cables and swaped the PSU leads around same unstabilty.
If i install the chip set drivers from asus I get no video, because I think its installing the on-board graphics driver and it doesn't work with the add-on card???
bios is running in default setting.
whats the best way to remove the case and test in a home enviorment, like my bed room?
also Matt said "Read through the motherboard manual for if there are any special requirements (I see Asus compatible RAM is mainly 2GB, some at 6GB using kits of 3)" did he get that from my system or just asus compatible ram?

An explanation of your blue screen errors .....
I would run the minidump files through BlueScreenView and try to identify which files are causing the problem.

I would be inclined to Run System File Checker ......

Windows 7 - SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

If the System is stable in Safe Mode in which only the basic Windows rivers are loaded the problem would seem to lie with the drivers loaded - generally third party, when Windows starts. BlueScreenView may shed some light on which drivers are the problem.
The drivers for the onboard graphics will not run your plug in card.
I don't think that is necessary given that the system is stable in Safe Mode, but basically remove the mobo from the case, lie it on a non-conducting surface and connect up the cables.
Most mobo manufacturer's post a list of compatible RAM - that list is by no means exclusive - they do not check all that is available. Your mobo manual will tell you the size of memory modules which are compatible and their placement in the slots.

    As I posted before ....
As the system is stable in Safe Mode I must repeat my opinion that a third party driver is the problem.

Yes, if a new member posts a thread with a (web)link in it, it needs to be approved by a moderator.

You are doing well explaining the symptoms!

If it is stable in safe mode, you probably should do a clean boot
How to perform advanced clean-boot troubleshooting in Windows XP
Sorry, it is time consuming, but might (should ;)) resolve the problem.

That sounds strange. Just a hunch, do you have the software (different from the drivers, usually a graphics "manager ") installed for both the add-in graphics adapter and the onboard graphics? They could be clashing. Look in the list of programs in Add or Remove Programs. If you swap from onboard graphics to an add-in adapter, you should uninstall the software for the onboard graphics before you shut down to put the adapter card in. You might have two sets of conflicting graphics manager software.

Actually only those drivers highlighted in pink are the relevant ones - as noted on the site .....

Well the system is stable, its a little discouraging cause it was crashing this morning.
As of now I don't have the add-in graphics card installed, no peripherals are on it except the mouse and key board and my Ethernet cable.
The system is at the point where if left alone it would be stable and I could/can warm boot with out problems but If I cold boot it would have caused a crash (like earlier this day) but its fine now.

Perhaps i should install the second monitor, the add-in graphics card and my other mice and head set( which is every thing I normally have on it) and see if it provokes the issue?

Also I feel it may be hard to test with the clean boot, only because when he issue does occur its more so rare that it will load windows at all, usually it crashes at window OS boot or restarts, it than asks me to run the repair console a few time be for it Finlay loads the OS at which point every thing will be OK its a little more rare that after it load the OS its still unstable but it does some times.

Can I do the clean boot options from safe mode?
