For a long time I've noticed that some system tray icons load only part of the time. Sometimes when I start up they're there, sometimes not. Examples include LogMeIn, eFax, and ProjectWhois. Right now the only one I see in the system tray is LogMeIn. When I check running processes I can see that LogMeIn and ProjectWhois are running. I can't identify a process that I know is eFax. ProjectWhois is useless unless it's in the system tray. Other system tray icons always load fine, e.g. TrendMicro, RoboForm, Carbonite.

Any ideas why this happens and how to fix it?

The first thing to check is ....

Right click on Task Bar > Properties > Hide inctive icons - if that is checked uncheck it.

I suspect this is not the cause so download Taskbar Repair Tool from Kelly Theriot and see if that helps to fix the problem.

That's not it. There's a left-arrow there that I can click to show hidden icons. That disappears when I change the setting you suggest, so all the icons are visible all the time. But the actual icons down there are the same, whether they're showing all the time or not.

    Hi greg,

I had experience your problem before this. I try almost everything. Checking the registry, taskbar properties,msconfig.. and service system. Unfortunately, I was not managed to figure it out.

Everytime I enter the start up information in the registry, it disappear automatically when next reboot. If i entered now, the system will startup the program in the next reboot, but will not in the second reboot.

My laptop don't have any spyware, adware, virusses or any malware there as I full scan my system daily with Norton and Counter Spy. Its is very strange for the information disappear automatically although my laptop can be considered as new. And is very annoying that i must open almost very program manually, like av, my touchpad driver, gfx driver and many services.

I also run Win Update oftenly. There are nothing unusual there.

So, I just want to say that maybe, the Windows is corrupt or the system does not correctly received the information.

    regards,
    zhafir
