    Hi all,
I'm planning to do a clean install of my friends laptop computer by purchasing/upgrading from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium. Although I've read the system requirements over at Microsoft, and my friends computer seems to be sufficient, I'm hoping somebody could tell me how well Windows 7 would run on his laptop (would it be a stretch? Would we be better of installing XP instead?)

His system specs are as follows:
    PC make: ACER
    Processor: Intel Core 2 duo T7100 (1.8Hz)
    Memory: 2GB DDR2
Graphics: up to 1024MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2300 HyperMemory
    HDD: 160GB

I've tried installing the Microsoft compatibility wizard to check, but his system is really messed up and I keep getting a "disk full" message, even though I delete stuff to free up space etc - this is the reason we're trying to do a clean install with a new OS.

His computer is about 4 years old.

Hi Snape. Yes the laptop will be able to run Windows 7 but if you are going to install the 64-bit version then you should upgrade the memory to 4 GB's to improve performance of the system.

Thanks Evan! I've left it with a professional to install for me, since it was giving me so much trouble.
@Bill, thanks - but that's the upgrade advisor that I already tried to install, which I couldn't due to "no disk space" error and being unable to delete anything, that I mentioned in my first post.

Anyway, should all be fixed up by this time tomorrow :)

After you uninstalled not DELETED stuff, did you go to Accessories/System Tools/Disc Cleanup and put a check in ALL the boxes and let it run? Then go to the same place and do a Defrag and see how much space you gain.

Yeah I did all of that Bill - sorry I should have mentioned I've spent countless hours over the past weeks running disk cleans, defragging, CCleaner for registry, virus scanners, Spybot etc etc etc ad nauseum. Doing a clean install and upgrading to Win 7 was the final resort, and even that didn't want to work - so I've just left it with the professional and am picking it up tomorrow.
