i have a intel pentium 4 processor 3.2 gb, my question is about how slow
    the system takes to boot.
    1. when i start my pc intel pentium 4 logo shows for 30seconds - BIOS
    2. next after that there is a delay of 50 seconds in which the cursor moves
    up and down.
    3. next it goES to the windows home edition green scan which takes about
    20 seconds.
    4. next is the welcome screen.
    5. SO it takes approx 2 minutes to get to the DESKTOP where i can start
    my applications.
MY QUESTION - IS THIS NORMAL IN WIN HOME EDITION XP TO TAKE SO
LONG IN ORDER TO USE MY COMPUTER!!!!!!!!!

    TREVOR

    Hi Jonathan...

I have a P4 2.0 GHz with 1 GB of RAM and it takes my PC approx 45 to 50 secs to get from pushing the power button on...to logging in to my network...to getting my desktop.

What make is your BIOS? The 30 seconds could be the RAM verification.

    Get into your BIOS...

    1) If there is an option for "Fast Boot" or "Enable Fast Bootup "...make sure it's on --> http://www.pcguide.com/opt/opt/bootSpeed-c.html. This should stop the RAM check
    2) Make your Hard Drive your First boot device as if you have another device such as a CD-ROM the boot process will take several extra seconds to see if the installed media is bootable
    3) Disable any unsed ports --> http://www.tweakxp.com/tweak1645.aspx

There are some good Performance tips on this web page --> http://www.tweakxp.com/performance_tweaks.aspx
