I am not certain what was done. Whatever it was your orignal error indicates a corrupt registry hive. The repair is to restore the Hive using Recovery Console followed by the System Restore points in the System Volume Information folder. A Guided Walk-through of the process: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q307545

I recommend visiting MS-MVP Bert Kinney's site. Bert has studied System Restore and written quite a comprehensive site discussing its use, repair and foibles: http://bertk.mvps.org/

Bert monitors the System Restore forum on AUMHA if you have further questions: http://aumha.net/
