I got a virus through Kazaa which made me have to format my hard drive. I reinstalled windows 98 and as a result lost all my system settings (quite normal).
I then noticed that my monitor will only give me 16 colours as opposed to true colour.
My audio settings are also changed and I'm quite baffled as to how to get them back to their previous working order.
I tried the system restore disk that came with my PC but it won't even load the desired HTML page.

My PC is a Compaq Presario and the monitor is a Compaq Presario MV400. I tried loading drivers for the monitor but to no avail. I'd appreciate anyones expertise on the situation.

    Many thanks in advance,
    Gerd, Ireland.

It's not the monitor drivers that need updating, it's the display adapter or video card that needs the correct drivers. Your sound card drivers most likely need to be installed as well.

Get Aida32, any version will do. Install and it will tell you what kind of video and sound card you have.
Post what they are, and you will get help finding the drivers for them.
