When I cold booted computer today, it progressed to desktop and continued to load final startup app's. Then proceeded to do an "orderly shutdown" and reboot. This cycle continued to repeated - no displayed system error messages. I went into Safe mode, check Auto-reboot on system failure was NOT ticked. Checked a number of things in Event manager, (will give detail if required later) found nothing unusual. After 90 minutes of getting nowhere , I went to system restore and took yesterdays 2:31 pm restore point, rebooted normally. Is their a place I can view to see what the restore fixed??

    Thanks

    Prior to problem ...
System was up for about 30 hours. Did normal email, Internet. Then installed a "zip install" program which stated no registry writes. The next 20 hours, email and Internet, shut computer off. When I turned the computer back on the next morning, problem started. The only information lost was said zip install folder (located in program directory). Still have the shortcut stored on my desktop/folder.

    ONE UPDATE
When I turned computer on, AVG Free performed it's auto-update (2-8-07 updates). Don't know if that had any impact on the problem or not. Nothing showed up in event manager ... other than many of it's services did not start up during "safe mode" startup, which would be expected.

I would like to thank all who responded.

That is why I got married, twice ........ "eek" puts it mildly. 7 kids in the family, I love them with all my heart ... about 3 days out of a week. The rest of the week we won't discuss!!!

Will leave sleeping dogs lie, have enough drama and to little time to pursue "Needle in the haystack" projects. It would be so nice if MS would include a "Changed records - Restore Log" which provides "changed" system information after running a Restore point.

There are tons of apps that will take snap shots of your registry before and after changes and spit out a list of the changes....I'd imagin that a sys restore would produce many pages of changes and that most of us humans wouldn't understand most of it...
