    Hi,

is there some type of file that can be edited that will let me delete entires that show up as restore points in system restore? if you create a restore point and then install a piece of software and decide you do not like it and then use system restore to go back, the entry still is there. can the entries be deleted?

    thank you,

    Mickey

Hi Mickey. Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

I don't think you can delete indivdual restore points but I know how to delete all but the most recent restore point. If you wish to delete all but the most recent restore point follow the instructions below.

Click Start< All Programs< Accessories< System Tools< Disk Cleanup. After disk celanup finishes calculating how much space you will be able to free up click the more options tab and under where it says system Restore click the Clean up button. This will delete all but your most recent restore point. Now click the disk cleanup tab again and select all the checkboxes except for compress old files. When thats done click ok and let disk cleanup finish deleting all the unneccessary files on your computer.

Evan is correct in saying that individual System Restore points cannot be deleted - each restore point is incremental, i.e. it records the changes since the first full restore point. There may be several incremental restore points.

The quickest way of eliminating all System Restore points is to turn off System Restore, reboot and turn it on again.
