System Restore [not functioning & need to remove spyware]

I am experiencing the same difficulty, not being able to use System Restore. I do need to restore to an earlier point. So, I need to gain access to one of those prior restore points. Something has installed itself in my quick launch tray that calls a web page for advertising. I've tried some manual removal techniques. Now I want to do a System Restore to remove the adware by brute force.

So is there a workaround to get my System Restore working?

Adware, Malware, ParentLock Browser won't run.

Sorry, I've been up 24 with this issue of System Restore not working, adware/malware 16 in all that were doing the nagging thing. Thank God for Spybot - Search and Destroy it sent all 16 packing. But now, I have a file called ParentLock in my FireFox default profile. It's keeping my browser from launching. Here's the kicker, I can't delete it. I'm told that FireFox is running. I bring up Task Manager. It's there in Processes. I click end process and it won't end!
