I recently used the system restore function (within contol panel, system) to repair a ******* up anti-virus program. It worked great but I did have to re-install some things. Now that I have it all configured the way I want, I was hoping to to take a 'snap shot' with system restore just in case. However, I can't seem to get it to activate. When viewing the system restore tab, there is a slider for the allowable disk space to use, and not much else. I can't seem to remember how I activated it the first time, but when it opened it you could choose a restore date from a calender or you could record the current state of the PC. I cannot get this window to open again. Any ideas?

START > ALL PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > SYSTEM TOOLS > SYSTEM RESTORE. They hid it pretty well.

In the event that it has been removed from the above area, go to Start > Run and type, msconfig.exe <press enter> That will give you the System Configuration Utility. Press the button labeled Launch System Restore. Voila!

    It's like cow dung.

    All over the place! ;)

It may not be exactly the same on all puters since OEM's have a way of customizing things to confuse us.

My third line there says HP Instant Support Rancher so go figure.

    :)

OEM and cow dung are generically equal.

Actually, it is over on the right hand side and has an active link that says System Restore, among other links it brags about.

I'm a Newbie, please, no profanity. I just found that creating a new folder and copying shortcuts for System Restore, Clean Disc, Defrag, etc into a Master Personal Folder made locating these tools a one click task. I named it Systems Tools and everything is in one folder. Registry First Aid, Compactor, jv16 etc.
If it's not a good idea please let me know.

    Welcome to the board!

Excellent idea; nice to see organized users - half the battle with computers.
