System Mechanic 6

Has anyone had problems using System Mechanic 6 to analyze and repair problems in their pc? On my desktop I don't see any improvement in speed, etc. even though it claims to have repaired many problems. It does however mess up the startup process. Something to do with "scan" and MS Installer. If I reinstall the drivers for my HP All In One Printer the problem goes away until the next time I run System Mechanic 6.

Hello garjfree and welcome to the Board,

First, the obvious, don't run System Mechanic.

If you run into this sort of problem in the future, use System Restore (I'm assuming you run WinMe or XP) - using a restore point just prior to the problem - to reset the OS files/registry.

Another way to backup the registry:

Start > run > type regedit > ok.

In regedit's top of page toolbar > file > export the registry to a file name, for examble reg backup, and to folder of your making. Double clicking on will restore the registry at need.
