I am experiencing this error on a regular basis. System reboots on start-up sometimes two or three times before it settles down.
Am running XP home SP3 on a AMD Athlon 64 processor 3400+ 2.20 GHz.
As i cannot use MS repair on this i am quite lost.
Any words of wisdom greatly appreciated.

    Jules.

Have you looked in Event Viewer for flagged errors?
Do you not have an installation or Recovery CD?

Yes i have the installation disc, it is older than the XP which is installed.
I wanted to attach the msg. telling where the problem is located but there is no "manage attatchments" underneath the message box. Is there another way to post the attachment?
    Jules.

Only Contributing Members can make attachments. However the alternative is to upload the image to a photo hosting site and post the URL here.

    The error details are ....
    See also ....

General causes of "STOP 0x0000007F" errors

    From the error message ......

    BCP1 : 00000008 - Double Fault
I suggest you check out your memory, noting ....
The only satisfactory way of testing RAM is to test the installed RAM in various configurations. If you have a single module swap it around the slots. If you have a pair of modules run each one singly, swapping between slots; then run them in pairs swapping between pairs of slots. If you have 2 sets of matched modules do not get them mixed up.

You have a dump file .....

    C:\DOCUME~1\Julian\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER8e99.dir00\Mini021209-01.dmp

Run it through our Dump Data Collection tool and post the log here, noting ....
This could be tricky to resolve :)

Many thanks, not sure why i´m thanking you as this is getting beyond me.
However i will try checking the RAM modules as you suggested. Maybe i will get lucky.
Will keep you informed as to my progress.

    Thanks again, Jules.

Run the Debug wizard, browse to the dump file and click on Generate log. Remain connected to the Internet. Post the log here.

BTW - you have downloaded and installed the Debugging tools from MS?

Have been struggling with the debugging tool. None of the mentioned locations are available. Created a new folder to save it in, but when i try to open it its empty.
Probably something i have done wrong. Am going to take a break (normally helps) and try again later. Alternatively i could try switching the RAM blocks, at least i can see the results of what´s happening there.
    Jules.

I think the problem is that you are not seeing a blue screen which would produce a memory dump in the locations listed on the Dump Data Collection Tool page .....
Your dump file is in a temporary location which may be removed on a reboot. If you go ...

Start > Run > type %temp% > Enter do you see it in the file list?

I would certainly check the RAM as I suggested.

The pc has three RAM slots with two blocks of 1024MB each.
Have now tried with one block installed in each slot. Still getting the same problem. Half way through with the second block and the problem remains.
A new development is that now i get a blue screen with info on the double fault and initiation of memory dump. Cannot make a screen dump but will try and take a shot of it and pass on the info.
    Thanks, Jules.

In that the command does not open C:\Docume~1\Your username\Locals~1\Temp or that there are no dump files to be seen there?

Reading through the thread again ....
Solution - slipstream the Service Pack installed on the computer into your install CD .....

Slipstreaming Windows XP Service Pack 3 and Create Bootable CD

Slipstreaming Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Create Bootable CD

You can run the most recent through the Dump Data Collection Tool and post the log here.

What would you suggest? It sounds pretty terminal. Should i let the physical memory be dumped to disk?
    Thanks, Jules.

Going back to the post above - I read that as no problem with one module installed regardlesss of the slot in which it is installed, but the second module gives problems - in a specific slot. Is that correct?
Yes, then in theory the data can be debugged using our Dump Data Collection tool

    For reference .....

No the situation is as such. Removed one RAM block and tried the remaining one in all three slots, still getting the problem. Removed that block, replaced with the second. Problem still so did not see the point in continuing. But what about allowing the physical memory to be dumped? Should i let this happen?
    Thanks, Jules.

Yes, if you want to try a debug of the dump as I posted above.

I suspect that a debug will indicate memory corruption, but until we see a dump log it' is not possible to be certain.
