My laptop is running windows ME and recently it reached a system halt. i tried to format it by going into a minimal boot with the boot disk but when i typed the keyboard was setup a different way (the keys didn't correspond with what came up on the screen) so i was wondering if someone could tell me how to fix the problem....if you can plz post here or email me...thanx

Not good. Was the halt before the OS loaded and was their a ROM BIOS message?

Since the keyboard is initialized by the BIOS before the OS loads, this sounds like a BIOS problem or a problem of wires, shorts, or bad connections.

Check everything visible and post back with any and all details about your machine.

well all the wires are ok since it's a laptop and i have never opened it for anything other than cleaning (compressed air) and it is before the OS loads so i guess it's a BIOS problem cause when i try to change BIOS settings it won't let me see them and instead continues to try and load the OS till it either restarts continuously or goes into safe mode where a blue screen comes up saying that there is a "windows protection error. restart the computer. System halt "

You could try reflashing the BIOS if you have enough info about the PC to find the correct one. That would require some use of the keyboard.

Short of that, and before reflashing (though I really doubt this will help), you could find out how to clear the CMOS on that machine.
