Checking Events>System today, I found the following error.
The source is Service Control Manager and is shown as Event ID 7026.
    The error description reads:
"The following boot -start or system -start drivers failed to load
    SASDIFSV
    SASKUTIL "
I was referred to MS help who suggested checking the drivers.
I don't know how or what to check, but I believe these 2 files relate to SuperantiSpyware which I have just deleted from my system.
Is this really much of a problem and if so can someone please advise me what to do about it.
    Thank you.

    Try ....

    Start > Run > services.msc > Enter.

Scroll through the Services and if any SAS services are present set them to Disabled.

    If none present ....

Start > Run > msconfig > Enter .... Startup tab - if present disable.

Thanks for your response Pete, there's nothing relevant on Services or Startup.

I would re-install SAS and then uninstall again - in Safe Mode

Something else to try if you re-install SAS. Before you uninstall it again, go into Control Centre/General and Startup Tab and uncheck all the boxes under Startup Options. Close out SAS and reboot your computer. Then proceed to uninstall SAS either in Normal or Safe mode.

By default, SAS will load on startup unless you tell it not to. That is possibly why you cannot get rid of the start-up drivers.

Thanks for your help, the response from Pete did the trick. By the way, JohnB, sorry if I sound a bit dumb, but what is ControlCentre on XP, there is no 'general' in control panel.

Hi again, Control Centre is part of SAS not XP. It's where you can set preferences, options etc. for SAS.

Sorry for not being more specific.

Hi after all of the above, the error messages came back in event viewer. However I inadvertently found the answer when looking through some tweak tips on the net.
By going to Device Manager>View>show hidden devices, I found these files under Non-plug & play devices.
I uninstalled them and the event viewer is clear.
This might be helpful to others looking for old or redundant devices.
