New computer 900 mhz AMD Duron 256 mb memory. Windows 98SE. After about a week of using it, windows suddenly discovered some "new hardware" and loaded software for it under the name:
System Board Extension for PNP Bios. Now when I check device manager, I see it there with a yellow circled exclamation point. When I click on properties it says "the device is causing a resource conflict (code 15).

I cannot imagine what in the world this is. I have an HP Laser Jet printer and a Canon BJC 240 installed. The only other thing is a mouse and a keyboard. And, of course, a Monitor.

I am not a techie, but have been all over the net trying to find "fixes" for the problem and reading at forums. So far, I haven't found anything.

Can anyone tell me what to do? Under systems in device manager, there is "System Board" and there is not tab for resources. Directly beneath that, there is "System Board Extension for PNP Bios" and it has a resource tab. Actually, I don't know If that is pertinent.

I am not knowledgeable, but with step by step guidance, I can follow instructions.

    Thanks a bunch.

Delete them both from the Device Manager, then reboot.

Okay... I deleted "system board" and "System Board Extension for PNP Bios" and rebooted. Windows still found new hardware and loaded software. But the "system board" is gone from the Device Manager. And "System Board Extension for PnP Bios" is back with the circled exclamation. And the message that the device is causing a resource conflict (code 15).

    Resource Confict (Code 15)

I have the same problem with my sister's computer under Device Manager @ System devices:

I have a yellow ! next to System board extension for PnP BIOS.

    If you click Properties Tab:
    Under General Tab:

It shows "This device is causing a resource conflict (Code 15) "

Under the Resource Tab - Conflicting devices it tells you - No Conflicts.

I'm running Windows 98SE on an old Gateway G6-233m
and even reinstalled windows but same problem.

BIOS setting look good compared to my Gateway G-400XL about the same.

    Any ideas?

Nope...still haven't received any ideas. I have tried tons of things, but it is still there. And yes, I also get the message that there is no conflict. Pretty weird.

Just for grins, go into the Control Panel, Add New Hardware. Let it search your system.

Hey Markp62 ... it worked!!!!! Incredible! I have been all over the internet asking at techie boards for more than 2 months. You can't believe all the stuff I have tried. I finally gave up.

Did what you said. It asked if what I wanted was on the list and had the pnp deal checked. I unchecked it and it took me to a list of items:
Advanced configuration and Power Interface (ACP)
Bio Plug and Play Bios - Removed
    System Board

I asked it to install those and it did. When I restarted my
computer, the yellow circle with exclamation point were gone.
    Thanks a ton!

I am so happy to get this resolved. :p
