    Scenario:

    Two w2k boxes.
different usernames, different domains. One is my work laptop, the other is my home machine.

Both talk to the mail server via a port forwarded ssh connection, and they use different outbound smtp servers.

With NS 4.9, I simply edited the registry to use c:\aaa\Netscape
as the user data area...and all mail, news, and cache dumped there for me to copy

I need to modify NS 7 to do the same, with NO documents and settings directory. I'd really like to get rid of the junkxxx.slt extra directory thing too.

Preferably without losing my extensive mail filters.

    any ideas?

    Welcome to the Forum, whatever2k!

    Hi whatever2k,

This may be a partial solution to your wish to move the Profile location; however, it does not include removing the *.slt folder.

    Move Profile Location

To the best of my knowledge this is not doable. Netscape created these abominable user folders as a security measure, but it tends to complicate the user's ability to move information from PC to PC, drive to drive, etc.

I've figure out how to do this.

    rename C:\Documents and Settings\bburde1\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\default

    to

    C:\Documents and Settings\bburde1\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\junk

copy C:\Documents and Settings\bburde1\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\junk\xxxxxxxx.slt to your other location. In my case, I used c:\aaa\Netscape\default

    edit C:\aaa\Netscape\default\prefs.js with a text editor and replace C:\Documents and Settings\bburde1\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\default\xxxxxxxx.slt
    with C:\aaa\Netscape\default\

start Netscape (just need to start mail) . It will drop you into the profile app. rename "default" to junk, then create a new profile named default and select C:\aaa\Netscape as it's directory.

    edit C:\aaa\Netscape\default\prefs.js with a text editor and replace C:\Documents and Settings\bburde1\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\default\
    with C:\aaa\Netscape\default\

Repeat the step above and replace C:\Documents and Settings\bburde1\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\default\xxxxxxxx.slt with C:\aaa\Netscape\default\

start netscape mail and make sure it's got your old stuff.

To sync it, you need to map the drive you're copying to, and simply copy and paste the mail subdir.

I no longer have an .slt folder., and I now have a directory that I can script the copying of.

Ramona, your response was the clue I needed . Thank you.
