    Hi everyone,

I have successfully setup my network at home to perform synchronization of files which have been made available offline.

The problem is that I would like to store the offline files in a folder that I specify, firstly because some of my work uses tools that require 8.3 (name/ext) path formats and secondly I would like to separate various items into their own directories instead of having them all mixed as they are in the "Offline Files Folder ".

The machines that use offline files and synchronisation runs windows xp professional.

If this is possible what is the procedure to select your own directories?

    Regards Farmer Jo

    Thanks for the reply.

I read through your link but still cannot find a way to use offline files other than with the default "Offline Files Folder ".

The problem is that when you select a directory that you want to use offline all of its contents are copied without regard to its directory structure into the "Offline Files Folder ".

So if, for example, the directory that you wanted to make available offline contained 10 directories and each directory contained 1 file the result is that all 10 files are copied to the "Offline Files Folder" but not their directories. Strange!

If you then select other directories and files to make available offline they will be copied with the other files in the "Offline Files Folder ". Basically it seems that the "Offline Files Folder" cannot contain directories which would greatly help in working with several projects offline.

I think your BBS is excellent. It is very well presented and is a pleasure to work with.

    Regards FarmerJo

    Hi again FarmerJo
Sorry I couldn't be of much help. I do understand the problem, I think......trying to ferret out an answer for you seems to be a bit different though. I wonder if a third party utility would do what XP alone can't?
I've not use any of these utilities....so can't vouch for any of them...but there's 7 pages to take a gander through?

    And yet more

Thanks for the help. I have come to the same conslusion as you. It looks as though the best thing is to find a synchronisation utility.

I noticed on another post, the "Internet Explorer/ Outlook Express" one, that there are hyphens for the replys and views counts even when I have viewed the post myself. Have I not posted it correctly somehow?

    Regards FarmerJo

    Hi again FarmerJo
Nope...you're doing just tickety boo. The hyphen just means one of the mods moved your post to what they thought was a more appropriate place...or where it had a better chance of getting read.
Which is where I'm off to. Please tell me you asked a much easier question this time! :D :p
