When I was on another PC Iwent to adjust the screen settings on the monitor and I clicked a wrong button and the screen went voff and has been blinking periodically ever since. It is a emachine with a older model magnavox screen if that helps any. I.would thoroughly appreciate any help anyone can give me on this subject. I do not have a screen on long enough to do any thing with it. I tried pushing the alt and space bar but that did not work either. Is there any more suggestions that you think might work. Is there a way to reset my monitor without going into the system? Oh, and by the way I'm running windows 98, not xp or any new version.

    Did not work

I read all of the related articles that was posted but none of them applied to my situation unless you are saying that I need to run the restoration cd. Idid download new invoice cd today from MYSOFTWARE and I did download part of creative writer. Do you think the MYSOFTWARE could have hurt it or is it just my dumb move? The monitor acts like it wants to run but all Iget is a black screen and an occasional blink.

Did you change the settings using buttons on the monitor itself or in the windows display applet? If the latter, try booting to Dos prompt and running scanreg. To do this, while the computer is booting, tap the ctrl key. If the ctrl key doesn't get you there, try f8. The boot process should stop at a menu. Use the arrow keys to select Dos prompt only and then press the enter key. At the Dos prompt type the following line followed by the enter key.

    scanreg /restore

Note the space between scanreg and /restore. You'll see a list of cab files with dates on them. Again use the arrow keys to select one of the ones that pre-dates the problem. Reboot the computer and see what happens.
