I take files to another location/pc to be worked on and I want to be able to synchronize them with the original files when brought back to main pc. I know this can be done using My Briefcase or Synchronize Manager for offline files. What I don't know and can't seem to find out anywhere is what happens if the files on the main pc have been changed after I have taken a copy of the files to work with on the other pc. When I synchronize the files how can I make sure it retains both the file changes made on the main pc and the changes made from another location pc.

DDAYUK - Welcome to the Board :)

    This may help ....
    Synchronization Manager overview

"Synchronization Manager compares items on the network to those that you opened or updated while working offline, and then makes the most current version available to both the computer and the network" suggests that the files are synchronised to the latest version by time stamp.

I think it very unlikely that if you work on the same file on 2 PC's, one in a different location and by transferring the file rather than accessing it over a network that the two versions of the file can be merged.
