Pushing ALT and Keying in the following sequence: 1,2,6 you obtain a ~ character.
Where can I get the complete table of these coding?
Thank you in advance for any help.

    Character map

I'm not sure that this is what you're lookong for but the windows character map is located under system tools in the the accessories folder of the start menu. Start-All Programs-Accessories-System Tools.

Click Start|Run, type in charmap and press [Enter] (or click OK).

In the Character Map window, select a font in the Font: pulldown, then click on one of the 'weird' characters. Now look down in the bottom right corner of the Character Map window to see the Alt+nnn Keystroke:.

To find the Alt+ code for the standard ASCII characters (Alt-0 through Alt-127), see the ASCII Chart (Table) on this page: http://www.lookuptables.com/

Try these 2 web pages. Gives you the actual values to type in slightly easier form to use. Also has some links which may be useful.

    http://mailformat.dan.info/body/charsets.html

    http://www.ascii.cl/

I have a printed chart by my desk which I got several years ago for the entire windows character set but cannot find on my pc to include in this forum.

mtomlj--Not every font in Character Map has every symbol. So test out a few if you do not find the one you want. And do not overlook the vertical scroll bar to the right.
However, ~ is Shift+the key over Tab on most keyboards. If you want the ~ to be over an n (ñ) then you have to use Charmap. And the Alt+xxxx keys from Character Map will not always work here. So use the "click on the character" plus Copy option.

    Thank you to everybody.
To Bungalow Bill: perhaps my italian windows 98SE is different but Character map is non available in System tools.
So 'charmap' in not known to the run command (to Spyware Dr.).
Anyway I believe that it is the same I have found in Word, while inserting symbols.
Thank you again and a joyfull year to everybody.

To install Character Map on Windows 98, click Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Windows Setup tab | System Tools | Details button. Place a checkmark in the box to the left of Character Map then click OK.

(Note that you'll need either your Windows 98 CD or the Windows 98 CD .cab files somewhere on your hard drive).
