    Hello all!

My NIS 2003 expires at the end of the year and I have chosen to NOT install the 3.0.xxx version of LiveUpdate. I was quite happy with 2.6.xxx. Today after starting the computer, for no reason at all, I checked the running processes and found AluSchedulerSvc.exe running. LiveUpdate had updated itself to 3.0.166 and it had happened minutes ago.

Some people complain about LiveUpdate NOT updating itself but maybe Symantec only releases to LiveUpdate versions that have met certain criteria. This was the second automatic update of LiveUpdate that I have had. The first was when originally installing NIS 2003 when it was updated from 1.8.xxx to 2.5.xxx. (I installed 2.6.xxx manually.)

Anyone else who has had 3.0.166 installed automatically today?

    Thanks for your time,
    Christer

Christer--I am not really answering your question, but just wanted to pass along a thought.
I do not know how you have been updating NIS2003 all these years. I know it used to be possible to get manual updates for Norton AV's virus definitions for years after the subscription to Live Update (which would update other parts of the program) had expired.
But about a year ago, Norton started to crack down on such manual updates to NAV's definitions. Perhaps you have just been "gifted" with the program that will prevent future manual updates.

    Jim,

It has not yet expired (dec 2006) and I have been using LU all the time.

Never heard of that but even if I got it, LU works well, too well actually since I didn't want LU 3.0.xxx.

    Welshjim,
FWIW. A few years back on some of the PC's where I installed the NAV2002 with the new CD supplied by the Folks, after completing the Normal installation, updating, etc......I noticed the dates of expiration on some of these machines to be 5-7 years in the future.....And yeah..it beats me how this was done!!
